Key Message Mr. Wieckenberg – GEVET Board Chairman

It is often complained that private sector companies have hardly any influence on the qualifications and competence development of their future skilled workers.

The GEVET Board of the AHK is made up of representatives of companies in the private sector and institutions of vocational training, who are thus able to exert this required influence and have a decisive impact on the design of the qualification development of the workforce.

The GEVET Board is the central advisory and decision-making body of the AHK in the field of vocational training in the dual system and in the execution of its tasks it is independent of instructions.

Besides the implementation of examinations, another important task of the Board is to work towards the continuous development of quality in vocational education and training. This means that the idea of quality assurance and quality development is the yardstick for the work of this committee and should always be included in the fulfilment of the tasks assigned to it.

The extremely high level of participation in the meetings of the GEVET Board shows us that private companies make great use of these opportunities for participation and that they have a great interest in shaping vocational education and training in Egypt.

Key Message Mr. Walid Qorish – TVET Committee Chairman

The AHK in Egypt has established a TVET committee in 2017 to allow the representatives of the participating companies and institutions in the TVET sector to regularly come together to discuss generic matters relating to the dual vocational education and training and the implementation of the German dual system by the private sector in Egypt. This TVET Committee is maintained for networking purposes, as it is utilized as a think tank for the TVET activities, workshops and announcements.

The international demand for German dual education and vocational training is growing rapidly as the perfect fit of qualifications on the labour market is seen as a major reason for Germany’s economic strength and its low level of youth unemployment. The high unemployment rate is one of Egypt’s most pressing problems, most evident especially among youth. The attention given to the TVET sector nowadays in Egypt is unpreceded. The department of Vocational Education and Training was established by AHK Egypt to serve the needs of the Egyptian market. It deals with the demand from business and politics and provides the appropriate services.
