Sekem: We Won the 2024 Gulbenkian Prize!

22.07.2024

We are thrilled to announce that SEKEM and the Egyptian Biodynamic Association (EBDA) have received this year’s Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity! We received the award alongside the other two winners, Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming (India) and scientist Rattan Lal (USA/India), for our pioneering work in advocating biodynamic agriculture and empowering local farmers in Egypt to transition to regenerative practices.

SEKEM Group CEO Helmy Abouleish, Justus Harm, Co-executive Director at EBDA and Economy of Love, and Naglaa Ahmed, Project Manager and Consultant at EBDA, were awarded by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who served as President of the Jury, yesterday, during the award ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal.

This prestigious award is a powerful testament to our dedication to scaling up our impact, supporting 40,000 farmers by 2025 through biodynamic farming practices. It also acknowledges our 'Economy of Love' model, showcasing its growing recognition on the global stage as a viable solution to climate change.
