The Deutsche Industrie- und Handelskammer - DIHK has recently published the results of its survey on Foreign Investments of German Manufacturing Companies 2025. The survey, conducted in early 2025, analyses responses from 1700 internationally active German companies in the manufacturing industry.
Key insights from the survey:
- 40% of the German manufacturing companies plan to invest abroad in 2025, slightly less than a year ago (42%).
- 33 % of the German manufacturing companies with presence abroad plan to increase their investments there, while 24 % intend to reduce such investment plans.
- As with the previous year, for 35% of the respondents the main motive for planned investments abroad is cost reduction (35%), a further 35% cite increasing their sales and services networks, and 30% mention the “opening of new markets” as their main reason.
- The primary investment destination for German manufacturing companies remains the Eurozone (64%). Meanwhile, a significant increase is expected in investments in North America, as 48% of the respondents indicated plans to invest there.
