Nearly one million homes in Nagaa Hamadi are set to gain access to clean energy through a new infrastructure project agreement between Siemens Energy and Scatec ASA in Egypt.

Siemens Energy will deliver a turnkey high-voltage substation that will serve as a gateway for evacuating 1 gigawatt (GW) of power generated by a photovoltaic (PV) plant built by Scatec ASA.

This substation will operate at a voltage level of 33/220 kV and will feature air-insulated switchgear (AIS).

The scope of work encompasses all civil activities necessary to support the installation and operation of the substation.

This project consists of two phases. In the first phase, Siemens Energy will deliver the initial 500 megawatts (MW) of power within 12 months, which includes a grace period of one month.

In the second phase, Siemens Energy will deliver the remaining 500 MW within 18 months of the project’s start.

Highlighting the power of partnerships in achieving decarbonization, Ashraf Hamasa, the Managing Director of Siemens Energy in Egypt, described the Nagaa Hamadi substation as a “transformative project that will pave the way for the larger deployment of sustainable, clean solutions in the country in the coming years.”

“This project is a testament to Siemens Energy’s ability to enhance the efficiency of electricity transmission and the stability of Egypt’s national grid, which are key pillars of the energy transition,” stated Hamasa.

He emphasized that the provision of reliable and sustainable energy stimulates economic growth, improves quality of life, and fosters a healthier environment for future generations in Egypt.

Clean energy projects, such as the Nagaa Hamadi substation, are widely recognized for their potential to facilitate the expansion of urban areas and transportation systems.

They also contribute to the country’s strategic goal of sourcing 42% of its energy from renewable sources by 2035, with a long-term objective of exporting energy.
