Strengthening German-Egyptian Cooperation in the Environmental Sector.

AHK Egypt at IFAT 2026

AHK Egypt actively participated in IFAT 2026 in Munich from 4th to 7th May 2026. Recognized as the world’s leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste, and raw materials management, IFAT celebrated its 60th anniversary this year, bringing together key international stakeholders and innovators from across the environmental sector.

During the trade exhibition, Dr. Peter Riad, Sector Expert Water on behalf of the BMWE at AHK Egypt, participated in several high-level discussions and networking events focusing on water management, environmental technologies, industrial decarbonization, and sustainable development. IFAT 2026 also witnessed strong Egyptian participation from both public and private sector representatives, including H.E. Prof. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and H.E. Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, reflecting the growing relevance of the water and environmental sector in Egypt.

Dr. Riad participated in a panel discussion at the booth of German Water Partnership, highlighting the role of the “iWater” Project which bridges academia and industry in Egypt while promoting innovative and market-oriented solutions for the water sector. On 5th May 2026, he also presented Egypt’s and Africa’s business and sustainability opportunities during the event “Across Africa in 60 Minutes” organized by the AHK Africa Office Berlin.

On the final day of IFAT 2026, Dr. Riad moderated the session “Focus on North Africa: Egypt as a Partner for Germany” at the Green Hydrogen Stage, addressing industrial decarbonization opportunities and the impact of CBAM on Egyptian industries. The session featured Eng. Alaa Kamal, Managing Director at INP Egypt LLC, and Eng. Ayman El-Moghly, Director of Business Development & Sales at Thyssenkrupp Uhde, who shared valuable insights on sustainable industrial transformation and German-Egyptian cooperation opportunities.

Throughout the IFAT week, he also had many meetings with Egyptian exhibitors and German companies and stakeholders to discuss future cooperation opportunities in the fields of water management, waste management, sustainable infrastructure, and green hydrogen.

AHK Egypt remains committed to strengthening German-Egyptian business cooperation and fostering sustainable partnerships across the environmental and industrial sectors.

Finally, AHK Egypt, as the official representative of Messe München in Egypt, supports exhibitors and visitors participating in IFAT, as well as a wide range of other leading international trade fairs.
